This week we’ll have another round of road clearing to prepare the forest service road for access to the new shelter site. The work involves clearing both sides of a primitive forest service road to give wide enough access for larger trucks. We got about half of the clearing done last week, and it was the toughest half. I’m expecting we’ll complete the work this week.
We’ll have sawyers with chainsaws doing the cutting, and those assisting will be moving logs and brush out of the cleared area. It could be a fair amount of lifting and pulling, so please assess your capability for this work before signing up. We’re also adding a few extra people to finish up removal of some smaller stuff from the area we cleared last week.
Chainsaw use restrictions have been eased, so we can work past 1:00 PM, but it’s expected to be warm on Thursday, hence the early start time.
Please note that this activity is on Thursday this week!
I’ll be in contact with registrants by Wednesday to confirm details of the plan.
What to bring: please ensure you have the following required PPE:
- hard hat (let me know if you need one)
- Sturdy footwear
- Long sleeved shirt and long pants
- Eye protection
- Bring hearing protection if you have it; we’ll have some available.
- a pack big enough to haul some extra tools and supplies.
