Work on re-establishing the Short Loop and Tesla snowshoe trails at Edison, following damage from the Little Lava fire, was completed last week with the installation of 96 re-assurance markers, new "You Are Here" maps at each junction and temporary junction signs. Thank You Gary Evans, Kelly Eager, Mike Bodell, Kurt Keesey, Dennis Delapp, and Kelly Cleman for your tireless help!
With Edison complete, we can proceed with regular pre-season trail maintenance and objectives of clearing any blowdown, checking signage, and trimming for marker visibility. We will start at the highest elevation trails, thus Dutchman Sno-Park next Tuesday.
Should you have a bit of extra energy this week, it would be great to get a report of the Vista Butte Snowshoe trail condition.
On Tuesday, we will start at Dutchman Sno-Park and hike the Dutchman Snowshoe trail to the Common Corridor (1 1/2 miles). Then we will proceed counter-clockwise on the Todd Lake Snowshoe Trail to Todd Lake ( 1 1/2 miles). We generally reach Todd Lake about lunchtime. From there, we will continue counter-clockwise back to the Common Corridor (1 1/4 miles). If we have more than one vehicle, we can move one to the Common Corridor in the morning to shuttle drivers back to Dutchman Sno-Park to avoid the extra 1 mike hike. Total hiking will be 4 1/4 miles...plus 1 more if we don't shuttle cars.
