This hike features scenic views of the the Painted Hills and surrounding countryside. Close up, you'll enjoy flowers, especially hedgehog cactus blooming on the hillside.
Distance: 7.6 miles RT. Plan on spending 9-10 hours including drive time to/from the trailhead and a voluntary refreshment stop afterwards at Tiger Town in Mitchell.
Elevation gain/loss: 1650 feet of gain
What to bring: Ten essentials, water, snack/lunch, and proper footwear (no tennis shoes or sandals). Dogs are not allowed on this hike.
Difficulty level: moderate.
Number of hikers: 9 maximum including the hike leader.
Carpooling: Carpooling can be arranged at the meeting place. Participants coming from Sisters or Redmond can meet us in Prineville at Pioneer Park on 3rd St at 8:45 am. Please let the leader know if you plan on meeting in Prineville. If you ride with someone, please donate to their gas fund. Be generous for obvious reasons.
Meeting place: The Grove in NW Crossing: 921 NW Mount Washington Drive, Bend. We'll grab a table in the general seating area, near Thump. Come early to grab a coffee and chat with others before we arrange carpools. Be prepared to leave by 8:00 am sharp!
