With the current good snow depth, we’ll continue this week to work on adding markers and improving marker visibility - this time on the Big Meadow Trail. We will focus on the upper part of the trail from the Flagline Junction (87) to the top of the Todd Ridge trail.
We’ll bring a couple of pole saws, hand saws, markers, and a drill in case the trees needing markers are too frozen to pound nails.
Please look for updates to the plan based on weather. As I write this the weather forecast calls for heavy snow on Sunday and Monday, and more settled weather Tuesday, with a chance of mixed precipitation Wednesday. I’ll be monitoring the weather, and we’ll either postpone to Thursday or wait until next week if it looks like it will be a miseryfest on Wednesday.
This is an advanced ski, since we plan to return via Todd Ridge. There is likely to be trail breaking.
What to bring: Winter Ten essentials, Extra gloves (since they’re likely to get wet), water, snack/lunch. Hard hats are required for this work; let me know if you need one. Bring a hand saw if you have one. Given the expected conditions and the nature of the terrain, 70 MM or wider skis are appropriate.
Carpooling: We’ll meet in the parking lot at Bend Parks and Rec at 8:30 AM to sort out carpooling. Let me know if you plan to meet us at the Nordic Center instead.
