Potato Hill

This is an advanced intermediate ungroomed cross country trail through the forest. 

Trail Highlights:  We will ascend up the Jack Pine trail, which will require full skins or kicker skins.  The descent will be near the uptick after "taking a lap" on the west side of Potato Hill.  This latter involves steep to moderate tree skiing. 

Level of Difficulty and Distance/Time expected: 

This is an advanced tour with 1500 feet elevation gain. Expected ski time is 4 hours.  You must possess advanced downhill ability, either with telemark or parallel turns.

When: Friday February11th. 

Meeting place/time: We will meet in the parking lot of BiMart in Sisters.  Carpool will be arranged from there.  Plan on leaving at 9:30.

What to bring:  

  • Full skins or kicker skins
  • Water, snack/lunch. 

  • No dogs on this trip. 

Ski Equipment: Freeheel/telemark skis no narrower than 99mm, 3 pin 75mm bindings or AT bindings and boots. 

Number of skiers: 8 skiers

Ski Difficulty Levels 

  • Advanced Tour: This means that to go on this tour you must have excellent proficiency in all ski touring techniques and you must be able to traverse and herringbone on steep terrain. You must be able to negotiate long steep hills, including densely wooded areas. You must be able navigate poorly marked or unmarked trails.  Distances are often over 8 miles and time up to 8 hours.
